ENERGY

I have graphed the muzzle energy in foot-pounds for a wide range of rounds.    Most of the data is found from Gun Digest 2003 (edited by Ken Warner), and the rest I worked out on my own.   If you do not see your favorite round, do not see the round of a new gun you want to buy, or would like to talk to me about how I got this data then please email me at timkarate at juno.com.

When I am looking into a new gun, there are two things that I look at.   The first is the price of the round.   I am in college right now and I cannot afford to be shooting guns that are about $1/round every week.   This page will not help you there, but it will with the next thing.   I always want to know if a certain gun will work from a self-defense standpoint.   I believe that in a life or death situation, you do not what to be carrying a gun that has less power then a 9mm.   So all the ammunition data is graphed to show the power of each round as well as that round in comparison the 9mm.

Energy is calculated per projectile out of the barrel at a time.   So for a shotgun the foot pounds is from each individual B.B.
